UMBRA COSMI grew out of personal experiences, questions, and thoughts. Over time these became books, texts, cards, signs, and places for conversation.
Not a religion. Not a set of instructions for how to live. An invitation to reflect on your own life.
A place to talk and to listen.
At the UC Tent you can simply sit down and talk. About your life, your thoughts, or whatever is on your mind right now. Sometimes there's no need for a finished answer. Sometimes a good conversation is enough.
There's no set format. You don't have to draw a card, and you don't have to buy anything. Sometimes a conversation begins with a card or a sentence. Sometimes simply because someone listens.
UMBRA COSMI is not a therapy or counselling service. It's about encounter, listening, and new thoughts.

Put simply: thoughts about life, about human beings and their place in the cosmos – and the experience that much of what we search for, we already know and have only forgotten. No. UMBRA COSMI has no holy scriptures, no commandments and no members – and no instructions for how to live. You do not have to believe anything; every thought may be examined and rejected.
Umbra Cosmi is Latin for “shadow of the cosmos”. It refers to the hidden that carries everything – the way night belongs to day. The guiding sentence is: “Not created. Recovered from forgetting.”
Yes. The German shop at umbracosmi.de offers essays, the Documentum series, fragment cards and companion books. English editions such as Documentum 0 are available on Amazon.
Getting started is free: the UC calendar, the explainer videos and conversation at the UC Tent. If you want to take something with you, books, cards and signs are in the shop. Buying is never required.
This website sets no cookies and uses no tracking or analytics tools. Fonts and images are served from our own server.
Hosting: united-domains GmbH, Gautinger Straße 10, 82319 Starnberg, Germany.
